An eating disorder is when a person has abnormal eating habits which may either be too little food or too much food intake which effects a persons physical and mental health. There are different types of eating disorders that a person may have which are bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa and binge eating disorder which are the most common eating disorder.
Anorexia nervosa is a person who has fear of gaining weight and this perception of how they should look regardless if they are thin. A person who is anorexic is greatly hurting themselves by causing menstruation to stop, bone loss, and can really stress the heart. Help for anorexia is out there by entering an eating disorder treatment center where professionals will help a person who has this disorder. Bulimia nervosa is similar to anorexia nervosa in that this person is also very fearful of gaining weight but they do not starve themselves. Instead a person with this eating disorder will overeat but then purge. They will either purge by self-induced vomiting or use of laxatives. Help for bulimia can be also be done at a treatment center.
Binge eating disorder is the opposite of a person who is struggling with anorexia but similar to bulimia nervosa because this is someone who overeats but does not purge afterwards. Binge eating disorder is more common than someone who is anorexic or bulimic and there is no common group of who has this disorder but can range with any gender or age. When it comes to these different types of eating disorders looking into eating disorder counseling may be very helpful for a person struggling with having normal eating habits. It may be difficult for a person with one of these eating disorders to stop what they consider to be normal but it can be done.
