Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) helps clients understand and recover from their eating disorder as well as any related disorders they may have. The program is structured to allow clients to continue living their daily lives. Most patients enrolled in this program are well on their way to a full recovery, and have successfully completed some kind of partial hospitalization program at Rebecca's House or another treatment center.
Throughout the program, we teach the patients to reflect upon and restructure their own internal and external processes, one step at a time. They learn their cognitive distortions and how to cognitively restructure for a healthier, more productive and realistic life. They learn how to focus on the present, regulate their emotions, and better maintain relationships with others.
The IOP can be used as a transitional program for inpatient or partial hospitalization, and can be convenient for patients who require intensive treatment. Individuals who are medically stable but are unresponsive to outpatient care may be successfully treated in our Intensive Outpatient Program without being hospitalized, which can be much more costly.
The IOP is designed to meet each individual's unique needs and help individuals take progressively more responsibility for their lives. It can help patients make significant progress in treatment without hindering day to day activities. Treatment generally lasts 4 hours per day and up to 6 days per week during initial phases. These sessions usually take place during evenings and afternoons, making it convenient for patients who wish to maintain their current lifestyle, such as their academic and/or occupational functioning.
